New state legislation

The Iowa House of Representatives on April 17, 2007 approved a bill to ban private possession of dangerous wildlife, 80-19. Previously approved unanimously by the Iowa Senate, the bill was sent to Governor Chet Culver.

The Oregon House on April 17, 2007 sent to Governor Ted Kulongoski a bill to make Oregon the 13th state to include animals in emergency planning. Virginia Governor Tim Kaine earlier in April endorsed into law a similar bill, introduced by state senator Walter Stosch.

The Hawaii House and Senate on April 13, 2007 approved each others' versions of bills to make Hawaii the 43rd state permitting prosecution of cruelty to pets as a felony. The bills must be reconciled by a conference committee and then be re-approved by both houses of the legislature in combined form before going to the governor to be signed into law.

Idaho Governor Butch Otter on April 3, 2007 signed a bill making Idaho the 26th state to ban "hunting" animals through a web site, using point-and-click to fire the gun.
