IN A WORLD PLAGUED with human injustice and violence, North Shore Animal League America takes great pleasure in rewarding heroic and compassionate pets and the shelters and sanctuaries that keep them safe through presentation of the Lewyt Award in each issue of ANIMAL PEOPLE Newspaper. If you have a pet or know of an animal who has shown outstanding courage or amazing tenderness to another animal or a human person, nominate him or her for a future Lewyt Award. Let the world know the exceptional dedication and affection animals have for those they love as well as for those who love them. North Shore Animal League America hopes that many more animal lovers will look upon mixed breed dogs and cats as valued loyal companions and adopt from their local animal shelter.

For a nomination form, contact Mr. Merritt Clifton, editor of ANIMAL PEOPLE at PO Box 960, Clinton WA 98236 USA; fax 1-360-579-2575; email <anmlpepl@whidbey.com> Nominations must include a photograph and documentation of the animal's good deed or remarkable behavior. Preference is given to animals who have been adopted from animal shelters. A plaque and cash award are presented to the animal's guardian, with a matching award given to a nonprofit animal shelter or sanctuary.
